Since gaining independence in 1947, India has seen a diverse range of leadership through its Prime Ministers, each contributing uniquely to the nation’s development. The first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, served from 1947 to 1964 and laid the foundation for a democratic and secular India.

4.       Smt. Indira Gandhi 24th Jan 1966 – 24th Mar 1977; 14th Jan 1980 – 31st Oct 1984 First Woman Prime Minister of India; Imposed emergency from 1975 to 1977
5.       Shri Morarji Desai 24th March 1977 – 28th July 1979 First non-Congress Prime Minister of India; Ended the state of emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi; Only Indian Prime Minister who got Nishaan-e-Pakistan (Pakistan’s highest civilian award)
6.       Chaudhary Charan Singh 28th July 1979 – 14th Jan 1980 Removed the Zamindari System and brought Land Reform Acts; Birth anniversary, 23rd December, is celebrated as Kisan Diwas
7. Shri Rajiv Gandhi 31st Oct 1984 – 2nd Dec 1989 Youngest Prime Minister of India
8.    Shri Vishwanath Pratap Singh 2nd Dec 1989 – 10th Nov 1990

10. Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao 21st June 1991 – 16th May 1996 Known as the Father of Indian Economic Reforms.
11. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee 16th May 1996 – 1st June 1996; 19th Mar 1998 – 29th Apr 1999; 3rd Oct 1999 – 10th May 2004 Operation Vijay, commonly known as the Kargil War; Gave the slogan of "Jai jawaan, Jai Kisaan, Jai Vigyan”; Birth anniversary, 25th December, is celebrated as Good Governance Day
12. Shri H.D. Deve Gowda 1st June 1996 – 21st April 1997
